Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 21, 2026
What we collect, why, and the rights you have over your data.
1. Overview
This policy describes how The Permit Test collects, uses, and protects personal information. We collect the minimum needed to operate an effective study service, and we never sell personal information.
2. Information We Collect
Study data: in the current version of The Permit Test, your practice results, flashcard schedules, study streaks, and state selection are stored locally on your device (browser localStorage) and are not transmitted to our servers.
Account data (when accounts launch): name, email address, and authentication identifiers from sign-in providers (Google, Apple, or email).
Payment data (when subscriptions launch): handled by our payment processor (Stripe); we never store full card numbers.
Usage data: with your consent, anonymized analytics about feature usage and page performance.
3. How We Use Information
To provide and personalize the Service (e.g., calibrating exams to your state, scheduling flashcard reviews, generating study recommendations); to process payments; to improve the product through aggregated, de-identified analytics; and to communicate service updates you opt into.
4. AI Processing
Our AI tutor analyzes your study performance to generate recommendations. When third-party AI providers are used, we send only the study context needed for the feature — never your name, email, or payment details. See our AI Disclosure Policy.
5. Cookies and Consent
Essential cookies keep the Service functioning (e.g., your state preference). Optional analytics run only after you opt in via the consent banner. You can change your choice anytime via the Cookie Policy page.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location (including under GDPR and CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, delete, and restrict processing of your personal information, and to non-discrimination for exercising those rights.
Today you can exercise the core rights directly: the Dashboard provides one-click “Export my data” (JSON) and “Delete all my data” controls covering all study data we hold for you on your device.
For any other request, contact support@thepermittest.com. We respond within 30 days.
7. Data Retention and Security
Local study data persists until you delete it. Server-side data (when accounts launch) is retained while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of account deletion, except where law requires longer retention. We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit and at rest.
8. Children
The Permit Test serves learner-permit candidates, who may be under 18. We do not knowingly collect more information from minors than the Service requires, and we do not serve targeted advertising to minors. Parents may contact us to review or delete a minor's information.
9. Changes and Contact
Material changes to this policy will be posted here with a new effective date. Contact: support@thepermittest.com.
